Jade Sency suits up for the 2020 soccer season

The Nittany Lion Women's Soccer program gets a boost for the 2020 season with the addition of Jade Sency from Oneida, Pa. Sency attends the Hazleton Area Academy of the Sciences where she ranks in the top three percent of her class and is a member of the National Honors Society and the Spanish National Honors Society.

"The opportunity to continue my passion is truly indescribable," said Sency." I was always a Nittany Lion fan, but I am ecstatic that I get to represent my school on the pitch."

Sency was a stand-out at the mid-fielder and forward position on the Hazleton Area High School soccer team, starting every game since her freshman year while helping her squad to the AAAA District Four championship game each season. Sency was named co-captain twice during her career with the Cougars and received the Player's Player Award and MVP Award during her junior year. In addition to her accolades on the pitch, Sency made a splash as a track and field athlete for three years, medalling in the District tournament in the 300-meter hurdle event during her sophomore season.

The local student-athlete is excited to continue her academic and athletic future with the Nittany Lions and plans to major in Biomedical Engineering while attending Penn State. Striving to continue the achievements of the Nittany Lion's on the soccer field, Jade is committed to fill in whatever gaps the team needs to be successful.

"Continuing to play sports in college is something I have always strived for," said Sency. "I want to be a versatile player so I can be reliable from my team and set a good example on the pitch and in the classroom."

Sency is set on enriching the lives of others and eventually wants to utilize her degree to develop prosthetics or safety equipment that will allow others to participate in sports and lead a healthy lifestyle. When not on the field or working on her studies, Jade loves to get away with family and friends. She enjoys hunting and fishing, playing the piano as well as video games and movies.
