Schuylkill Haven, Pa. - Hazleton dropped their first Penn State University Athletic Conference game of the season on Wednesday afternoon with a 1-0 defeat at Penn State Schuylkill. Hazleton won the possession battle and out shot Schuylkill handily in the match by 15-2 in shots on goal but a second half conversion by the home team issued Hazleton the unexpected loss.

Hazleton forwards, senior Katie Oldziejewski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) and sophomore Emma Wyllie (Benton, Pa.) combined for 11 shots on goal in this one, but unlike the September 5th when Hazleton topped Schuylkill 8-0, the Lady Lions were stymied by errant shots of the crossbar and 10 saves by Schuylkill goalkeepers. After a 0-0 score at halftime, Schuylkill made headway in the early stages of the final period and in the 62nd minute, a crossing pass by Samantha Palacz found Hailey Rundle for the game's first and only goal. Hazleton had several more opportunities down the stretch but time wound wind down with no payoff from the Hazleton attackers.

Next up: With the loss, Hazleton's record moves to 4-2 on the season and 0-1 in PSUAC play. Hazleton will have a crucial game this weekend when the squad travels to Penn State Beaver for a 2:00 p.m. kick off on Saturday, September 28.
