Yurchak set to join Nittany Lions
Hazleton, Pa. - Weatherly native Steph Yurchak has signed on to play baseball for the Nittany Lions in 2019-20. The sophomore completed his collegiate transfer over the summer and penned his name to take over duties in the outfield for Hazleton during a recent campus visit.
Yurchak excelled as a two-sport athlete at Weatherly Area High School where he captained his basketball and baseball teams as a senior in 2018. In his final season, the senior was widely considered to be the top defensive player in the Schuylkill League and also finished the year with a rock solid .392 batting average. Yurchak parlayed that success into an invitation to play baseball at NCAA Division III Dean College in Franklin, Ma. but returns home to help the local Lions achieve their ultimate goal of a Penn State University Athletic Conference title.
Steph's excitement goes beyond the baseball diamond and his performance in the classroom has been a staple of his young career. At Weatherly, Yurchak was a named to the National Honor Society and he continued to prosper academically at Dean College where he was named to the Dean's list. Now at Penn State, Yurchak plans to pursue a degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Management.
